Eloise Grey

We are very delighted to offer Eloise Grey tweeds at Magic Number Three. This exceptional UK label uses ethical and organic tweeds from the Isle of Mull Weavers. Eloise Grey the designer currently specialises in coats, jackets and skirt suits for women, all made in the UK under the eye of master tailor Neil Aslan.

The garments from Eloise Grey epitomise the art and craft of clothing: her collection takes inspiration from writers, with the De Beauvoir jacket and Elizabeth coats; whilst the fabrics uphold traditional weaving skills in a new ecologically-sound way.

'The tweeds are woven by the Isle of Mull Weavers at Ardalanish Organic Farm in Scotland. Owners Aeneas and Minty Mackay aim to sustain and develop the traditional art of weaving of the Hebrides and at the same time pioneer organic practices. Their organic tweeds were the first Soil Association Certified wool textiles in the UK and won best Organic Textile Product in 2007.'

'Eloise spent several years refining her skills in art and fashion schools in London. She draws on the tailored and couture traditions of earlier generations. Connecting to her Scottish roots, (she spent her

childhood holidays in Aberdeenshire) she was inspired by the Isle of Mull Weavers’ organic and ethical undyed tweeds. Eloise Grey launched with a capsule collection of ladies’ coats in 2007.

In May 2008 Eloise won a competition organised by Los Angeles-based International Design Awards. She came first in the Land: Fashion category of Land + Sea Competition for Excellence in Designs That Decrease Man’s Carbon Footprint.' Eloise also exhibited at Origin craft event in London, organised by the Crafts Council.

The appreciation for well made, high quality fabric garments is growing. We think people are rediscovering the joy of treasuring items of clothing and keeping them to hand down to the next generation. The tweeds used by Eloise Grey 'are fabrics which last a lifetime. In addition, the tweeds naturally resist water and dirt so they are very low-impact to maintain.' These ethical and organic fabrics feel luxuriously soft thanks to the way the wool is processed, whereby the natural oils are retained. 'The tweeds are produced in small batches and the wool changes shade from year to year', adding to their special qualities.

Eloise Grey is impassioned about what she does and the difference she is making by offering beautiful eco, ethical garments. You can keep up with her story by following her blog at www.eloisegrey.co.uk Future developments of her label include a Mens' collection, blending classic and contemporary ideas, in collaboration with a Saville Row tailor.
